I’m Doing a Thing

I’ve been sitting on some PC parts. When the pandemic ramped up a couple years ago, I started snagging PC parts before the prices shot up too far. I am very dependent on my computer and the idea of a mobo crapping out during a global parts shortage scared me. My PC (currently 5+ years old) has still been serving me well though, so I was never in a rush to upgrade. So, I’ve been sitting on PC parts.

I want to get back into streaming. I did a bit of a trial run a while back and it went pretty well. I bought some budget streaming gear and did a mixed cooking/gaming stream for a few months. My biggest hurdle is me. I can excel at anything I put my mind to, but my attention is always so divided. I need to get better at setting short term goals and actually working toward them. So, I set a goal; more of a deadline. It’ll be a bit challenging, but hopefully attainable.

IYDK, there’s this streamer on Twitch named chocoTaco. He’s a chill dude and he’s built an even chiller community. He has an annual tradition of hosting a month-long ECO server so everyone in the community can play together. I’ve never participated myself, but I’ve had a blast watching the last couple years. Several people in choco’s community have become streamers themselves (he has that effect), which means you get to see several different perspectives of the same game. For a whole month, you get to see all these different people working on all these different projects. This year, I plan to join in. I have a fair bit of experience in ECO, so I can certainly be an asset in game, but I also want add my perspective to the collective.

So I did all the dishes that were cluttering my kitchen table, and recluttered it with all those old PC parts I’ve been sitting on. I haven’t built a new PC in a while, so assembly didn’t go fast, but it did go smoothly. I got it to turn on and POST tonight. Hopefully tomorrow evening I’ll get an OS on it and make sure thermals are OK. Then I can get my capture card swapped into my current PC and set up OBS again. That should give my time to work out any kinks before the ECO server goes live on Feb. 6th. Also, as fate would have it, my birthday falls right in the middle of that week, and I had already requested the whole week off from work. I hope to put in some hours getting the community off to a good start, and I hope my stream will help add to the ECO viewing experience that I’ve enjoyed in past years.
